Natasha Trethewey will discuss depictions of race, growing up biracial in the South

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey will be the special guest for the Honors 20th Anniversary Lecture at 糖心Vlog官方 on Jan. 24.
WHAT:
Natasha Trethewey will speak about historical depictions of race in the Americas and her own experience growing up biracial in the South. The program is free of charge and is open to the 糖心Vlog官方 community as well as the general public.
Trethewey鈥檚 poetry reading and discussion is part of the yearlong Honors 20th anniversary celebration at 糖心Vlog官方. The Honors Program began in 1996 and evolved into the Honors College in 2013.
WHO:
Natasha Trethewey served two terms as the 19th Poet Laureate of the United States (2012-14). She has authored four collections of poetry, including 鈥淣ative Guard,鈥 for which she was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. Currently in her 15th year as a professor at Emory University, Trethewey will join Northwestern University鈥檚 English Department at the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year.
